Motorola Unveils Motorola Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition [Review]

Today, Motorola has unveiled the two new tablets, Motorola Xoom 2 and Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition. The Motorola’s new Android based Tablets will be available in two versions, one normal and one specially designed for multimedia content consumption. Both devices clocks a dual core processor at 1.2 GHz and comes with Android 3.2 honeycomb. They will be available primarily in UK and Ireland in mid-November.

Although, Apple is the undisputed leader in Worldwide Tablets share, when we talk about Android based tablet, one company that has always tried to stand up to the Apple iPad is Motorola with its Xoom Tablet family.

“Tablets are quickly becoming a must-have tool for staying connected, getting work done and having fun at home and on the road,” said Victoria McManus, marketing director UK & Ireland, Motorola Mobility. “We are very excited about these two new additions to our tablet portfolio that build on the success of the original Motorola XOOM to now deliver more powerful tablet experiences to the European market.”

Motorola XOOM 2 is much lighter and Brighter and is based on its predecessor with powerful hardware. Xoom 2 has a 10.1-inch HD screen with Corning Gorilla Glass technology and Android 3.2 Honeycomb. Motorola explain their specifications with a splash and tapered edges designed to improve grip. The Tablet is compatible with the optional Motorola Stylus that is great for note-taking, hand-writing emails and sketching. Loaded with Business Ready features like VPN support and data encryption, Motorola Xoom 2 is an ideal Tablet for Business use.

As for weight, the Motorola Xoom 2 weighs only 599 grams, its dimensions are 253.9 mm x 173.6 mm x 8.8 mm, and has a battery with 10 hours autonomy. A camera on the back of 5-megapixel camera with digital zoom, autofocus and LED flash, and a 1.3 megapixel front boasts its main specifications.

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition is a tablet optimized specifically for viewing multimedia contents and playing games. The Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition has a 8.2 inch HD Screen with Corning Gorilla Glass. In this case, Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition stands out as a special feature that the screen is optimized for viewing in widescreen and for different viewing angles.

The company also ensures that this tablet has a 20 percent improvement in graphics performance over the original Motorola XOOM for smoother gaming, features adaptive virtual surround sound with booming bass that’ll delight your ears, and stands out from the crowd with the fastest multi-tasking in its class.

The second version of Motorola Xoom 2 also sports the similar battery size of standard Xoom 2. In this case, the device weighs 386 grams and measures 139 mm x 216mm x 8.99 mm in size. These characteristics increase its chances of high mobility. However, its battery with 6 hours of autonomy limits its advanced possibilities. All the other features are same as of Motorola Xoom 2, including processor speed, memory and the use of Android 3.2 honeycomb.

Motorola has confirmed that at present the two tablets will be only be available in the middle of this month in the UK and Ireland. Carphone Warehouse customers in the UK can pre-register here.
